W&AM Insights: December Brought a Sharp Decline in Economic Sentiment Among Mass and HNW Investors
ECONOMIC OUTLOOK – December 2018 Measurement
The W&AM Economic Optimism trend line experienced a 3-period decline among investors. Compared to the prior month, December optimism dropped 10 percentage points among HNW investors and experienced an even greater falloff of 15 points among the Mass Affluent.
INVESTING OUTLOOK –December 2018 Measurement
The W&AM Investment Optimism trend line fell to 29% in December among HNW households, a 4 percentage point decline from November. Investment optimism was relatively unchanged among Mass Affluent.
Ongoing fears about the economic impact of tariffs, instability in the financial markets along with uncertainty over interest rate hikes, were among the primary factors that played a role in investor sentiment among HNW and Mass Affluent investors. The percentage of Mass Affluent households that planned decreases in investments over the upcoming months, grew to 14% in December.Back to Explore
