Phoenix at Porchfest: A Music Festival that Brings the Community Together
Phoenix MI will once again sponsor the Rhinebeck Porchfest, a music festival that features the talent of 100-plus musicians and bands, showcased on the porches of over 20 historic homes in Rhinebeck, NY. The event will take place on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 on Chestnut, Livingston, and Mulberry street in the village of Rhinebeck.
The event is free to attend and is funded entirely by donations and sponsorship from local residents and businesses. All of the money raised is donated to the Rhinebeck Community Park, which is home to the Rhinebeck Community Garden, Starr Library, ball fields, a pool, and acres of protected open space.
Allen R. DeCotiis, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of Phoenix MI, also participates in the event as a musical performer, often with members of his family and friends. The event draws thousands of people every year to enjoy the diverse mix of musical genres, which includes rock, punk, country, bluegrass, Irish, Turkish, alternative, and more. Visitors also have the opportunity to check out the food and home-made crafts from local vendors, all of which help enrich the community.
Most importantly, the event brings the entire community together. “That’s the beauty of music,” said event co-organizer Liz Mazzarella. “It crosses all barriers, and is uplifting, and I want people to forget about all the divisiveness in the world and just enjoy the magic of music.”
