Perhaps resulting from concerns regarding policies impacting the economy, the W&AM Economic Optimism trend line dipped substantially among HNW investors from September to October, to 67%. Reflecting more positive views on the strength of the economy and a tighter labor market, the trend line was up during this time period among the Mass Affluent (72%).
INVESTING OUTLOOK – October 2018 Measurement
The W&AM Investment Optimism trend line measured in at 31% among HNW households, representing a 2 point decline from the prior month. This metric increased from 28% to 30% among the Mass Affluent.
Worries over a possible trade war with China, midterm elections, and an extremely volatile stock market in October led both Mass Affluent and HNW households uneasy, with an uptick in those considering pulling out of the market.
