W&AM Insights: Economic Outlook Declines in Sep – Storm Related?
ECONOMIC OUTLOOK – September 2017
The W&AM Economic Optimism Index declined in September among Mass Affluent (down six points to 63%) as well as HNW investors(down two points to 72%). This established a three-month downward trend in both segments. The Consumer Confidence Index also declined slightly in September, citing the impact of the severe hurricanes that month.
INVESTING OUTLOOK – September 2017
The W&AM Investment Optimism trend line increased by three points (to 38%) among Mass Affluent, but remained unchanged among HNW investors (at 36%). Of note, the Net Decrease trend line rose to 12% in the HNW market.
Non storm-related economic indicators are strong, so it is likely that the declines in September were temporary. The uptick in the Net Decrease outlook among HNW investors might reflect the start of year-end profit taking.
